The Liberty

The Liberty

The Liberty was renovated in 2015. The renovation converted the former tobacco warehouse and wholesale grocery distribution center into a reception hall, microbrewery and brick oven pizza pub. The Liberty Tobacco Warehouse is a 30,000 SF brick structure with free spanning 100-foot heavy timber trusses and heart pine floors. It was constructed around 1923 and is a contributing structure to the Downtown Elkin Historic...

Broomfield Creek Residence

Broomfield Creek Residence

This custom home was designed around a spectacular site adorned with several live oaks along Broomfield Creek on Lady’s Island, SC, overlooking the intracoastal waterway and the Historic Beaufort Waterfront. The house was constructed using ultra-efficient Aerated Autoclaved Concrete (AAC) block and the corners were covered in polished recycled masonry blocks. The house features floor-to-ceiling glass along the riverfront and a two-story screen porch that allows the owners to get the most out of their waterfront setting. The four-foot roof overhangs and brise-soleils help protect the...

Fiddles Pub

Fiddles Pub

Fiddles Pub was an interesting project for several reasons. This is a contributing historic structure to the Downtown Elkin Historic District, but it had been carved out of a much larger parcel, leaving only one exterior wall. The resulting space was a 17’x40′ room that we needed to squeeze a commercial kitchen, bar and dining room into. Although the building is small, all of the program fit into the space quite nicely, and just about any weekend night you’ll find the locals elbow-to-elbow listening to live music and enjoying the fare. The renovations to Fiddles Pub have...

Golden Road Vineyards

Golden Road Vineyards

The owners of Golden Road Vineyards left the city life in Illinois and found a beautiful tract of land along the South Fork of the Mitchell River in State Road, North Carolina, to begin their second career as vineyard proprietors. During the site analysis we determined we would be able to use the already cleared pasture for five of the vineyard blocks and were able to clear a small area of well-graded land for a future sixth vineyard block. As the other components to the vineyard master plan, we nestled the house down in its own little clearing at the end of a block of Petit Manseng, with...

Church Street Renovation

Church Street Renovation

This 15,000 SF contributing historic Art Deco building was originally constructed around 1937 as a single screen theater. In the early 1970’s the theater was converted into professional offices and remained in this arrangement until our renovations in 2011. The new owner needed to expand his existing business operations and looked to a historic structure in downtown Elkin to do so. The renovations included a complete rework of the main level and mezzanine interiors, as well as the addition of an emergency egress stair into the adjacent alleyway. A complete electrical service upgrage...
